今我が家のベランダには朝顔の鉢があります。 小学生の娘が、学校の授業で使った残りの種を植えたものです。 朝顔の花といえば、子供の頃の夏の日々を思い出します。

昔から日本の小学１年生は、授業の中で朝顔を育て、観察をします。夏休み前に重い鉢を持ち帰った思い出がある人も多いと思います。 朝顔は育てやすく、ツルがのびて花が咲くという成長の過程が、こどもたちの観察対象に適しているのだそうです。

さて、おそらく娘も夏休み前に自分が育てた朝顔を持って帰ることでしょう。毎日水をやり、観察日記を書くという宿題もあることでしょう。 この夏は、私も子供の頃を思い出し、朝顔の観察をしてみようと思います。綺麗な色の花を見るのが楽しみです。

朝顔（あさがお）

今（いま）我（わ）が家（や）のベランダには朝顔（あさがお）の鉢（はち）があります。 小学生（しょうがくせい）の娘（むすめ）が、学校（がっこう）の授業（じゅぎょう）で使（つか）った残（のこ）りの種（たね）を植（う）えたものです。朝顔（あさがお）の花（はな）といえば、子供（こども）の頃（ころ）の夏（なつ）の日々（ひび）を思（おも）い出（だ）します。

昔（むかし）から日本（にほん）の小学１年生（しょうがくいちねんせい）は、授業（じゅぎょう）の中（なか）で朝顔（あさがお）を育（そだ）て、観察（かんさつ）をします。夏休（なつやす）み前（まえ）に重（おも）い鉢（はち）を持（も）ち帰（かえ）った思（おも）い出（で）がある人（ひと）も多（お）いと思（おも）います。 朝顔（あさがお）は育（そだ）てやすく、ツルがのびて花（はな）が咲（さ）くという成長（せいちょう）の過程（かてい）が、こどもたちの観察対象（かんさつたいしょう）に適（てき）しているのだそうです。

さて、おそらく娘（むすめ）も夏休（なつやす）み前（まえ）に自分（じぶん）が育（そだ）てた朝顔（あさがお）を持（も）って帰（かえ）ることでしょう。毎日（まいにち）水（みず）をやり、観察日記（かんさつにっき）を書（か）くという宿題（しゅくだい）もあることでしょう。 この夏（なつ）は、私（わたし）も子供（こども）の頃（ころ）を思（おも）い出（だ）し、朝顔（あさがお）の観察（かんさつ）をしてみようと思（おも）います。綺麗（きれい）な色（いろ）の花（はな）を見（み）るのが楽（たの）しみです。

Japanese morning Glory

At our house at this time there is a pot of Asagao on the veranda. They are seeds that we planted which our elementary school age daughter brought home as left-overs from a school class experiment.Talking about Asagao flowers, (known as Japanese morning glory in English) it reminds of summer days when I was a child.

Since a long time ago, Japanese elementary first graders have always grown Asagao flowers in class and observed them. I think many people have a memory of carrying heavy pots home with them before the start of the summer holidays. Asagao are easy to raise, the process of growth is suitable for children to observe ; the vines grow and become flowers.

So I guess, this year before the summer hoildays, my daughter will bring home some Asagao seeds that she grew herself. Her homework will probably be to water them every day and give them some water and write it up in her observation diary. I'm looking forward to reverting back to my childhood and observe the colors of Asagao flowers (or Japanese morning glory in English) as they blossom.
