今週は「梅雨 と紫陽花 」を紹介します。

　日本では6月の初めの頃から約1ケ月半くらい、雨の天気が続くことが多いです。この期間を梅雨といいます。 なぜ「梅 」という言葉を使うかは、「梅の実ができる頃に降る雨だから」と言われています。

　梅雨は外で色々なことができないので、あまり良いイメージが持たれていません。 しかし、雨によって、空気がきれいになり、太陽の光も弱くなるので、花や木などの自然がとてもきれいに見えます。

　これらの効果を最も感じるのは、この時期に咲く紫陽花の花です。 花の色は白、紫、青を基本とした、色々な自然な色です。 一つの花で濃い色から薄い色に変わっていきます。

　日本のお寺などで、雨のやんだ後に見る紫陽花はすばらしいです。 私の家でも、小さな庭にたくさんの紫陽花を育てています。

梅雨（つゆ）と紫陽花（あじさい）

　今週は「梅雨（つゆ） と紫陽花（あじさい） 」を紹介（しょうかい）します。

　日本では6月の初めの頃（ころ）から約（やく）1ケ月半くらい、雨（あめ）の天気（てんき）が続（つづ）くことが多いです。この期間（きかん）を梅雨（つゆ）といいます。 なぜ「梅（うめ） 」という言葉（ことば）を使（つか）うかは、「梅（うめ）の実（み）」ができる頃（ころ）に降（ふ）る雨だから」と言（い）われています。

　梅雨（つゆ）は外で色々（いろいろ）なことができないので、あまり良いイメージが持たれていません。 しかし、雨によって、空気（くうき）がきれいになり、太陽（たいよう）の光（ひかり）も弱（よわ）くなるので、花（はな）や木（き）などの自然（しぜん）がとてもきれいに見えます。

　これらの効果（こうか）を最（もっと）も感（かん）じるのは、この時期（じき）に咲（さ）く紫陽花（あじさい）の花です。 花（はな）の色（いろ）は白（しろ）、紫（むらさき）、青（あお）を基本（きほん）とした、色々（いろいろ）な自然（しぜん）な色です。 一つの花で濃（こ）い色から薄（うす）い色に変わっていきます。

　日本のお寺（てら（などで、雨のやんだ後（あと）に見る紫陽花はすばらしいです。 私の家でも、小さな庭（にわ）にたくさんの紫陽花を育（そ）てています。

Rainy season and hydragea

This week we introduce the rainy season and hydrangeas.

In Japan, rainy weather often lasts from around the beginning of June for about one and a half month. This period is called the 'Tsuyu'. The reason why the word 'ume' is used is said to be because it is the rain that falls around the time when the ume fruit is ready to be harvested.

The rainy season does not have a good image because it is not possible to do many things outside. However, the rain makes the air cleaner and the sun's rays weaker, so flowers, trees and other natural features look very beautiful.

These effects are felt most in the hydrangea flowers that bloom at this time of year. The flowers come in a variety of natural colours, based on white, purple and blue. One flower changes from dark to light colours.

The hydrangeas are wonderful to see after it has stopped raining, for example at temples in Japan. I have many hydrangeas in my small garden.
