ひな祭り
Hina Matsuri dolls
By YAMAMOTO Hiroshi

Girl's Festival
This week we introduce the Girls' Festival on 3 March.
This festival is held to pray for the health and future happiness of girls. It began more than 1,200 years ago in the imperial court. Nowadays, young male and female dolls that are dressed in beautiful kimonos are displayed in some houses. The most extravagant ones display a total of 15 dolls and many trousseaus.
Peach blossoms and rhombus-shaped rice cakes in three colours are decorated, and shellfish soup and chirashi-zushi are eaten. All of these are meant to wish for the girl's health and happiness.
In my family, we also display small hina dolls in our house every year. Please look forward to another lesson this week.

I started teaching Japanese to technical intern trainees and internship students, and since 2019, online Japanese instructor at JOI.
My main focus is on Business Japanese and JLPT grammar (N1,N2.N3) in particular. I am also available for short-term private lessons to improve your business Japanese skills before joining a company, taking an assignment, or changing jobs on your requested schedule.
I worked for a major machine manufacturer for about 40 years. During that time, I was assigned to various departments such as factories, trading, R&D, sales, general affairs, accounting, and auditing. With these experiences, I believe I can provide you with practical assistance in various situations when you are doing business in Japanese.
