Kasumi mist
Japanese language blog with beautiful Kanji
This week Yamamoto sensei introduces a special Japanese word.
It has a beautiful Kanji that almost looks like the object or concept that it describes.
霞
Kasumi mist
By YAMAMOTO Hiroshi
今週は「 霞」を紹介します。
霞とは空気中に浮かんでいる細かい水滴で、 遠くがはっきり見えない状態をいいます。 気温が上がり始める2月末頃に始まります。 また、 俳句の春の言葉でもあります。
景色全体が、空と一緒になり白っぽく、ぼんやりと 不思議に見えます。 見ていると、ゆったりと時間が流れている感じがします。

Kasumi mist
This week we introduce the Japanese word "Kasumi" (which means mist especially in referene to spring season).
Mist is fine droplets of water floating in the air. When it happens, you are unable to see clearly in the distance. It begins around the end of February, when the temperature begins to rise. It is also used as a spring term in haiku (haiku; 17-mora poem).
The whole landscape becomes whitish and dim with the sky. It looks mysterious. When you look at it, you get the feeling that time is flowing slowly.

I started teaching Japanese to technical intern trainees and internship students, and since 2019, online Japanese instructor at JOI.
My main focus is on Business Japanese and JLPT grammar (N1,N2.N3) in particular. I am also available for short-term private lessons to improve your business Japanese skills before joining a company, taking an assignment, or changing jobs on your requested schedule.
I worked for a major machine manufacturer for about 40 years. During that time, I was assigned to various departments such as factories, trading, R&D, sales, general affairs, accounting, and auditing. With these experiences, I believe I can provide you with practical assistance in various situations when you are doing business in Japanese.
