 School subjects in different countries

One of the most common topics of conversation in our house is the difference between various countries' education systems.
What subjects are taught in different countries?

When I was young, Latin was a compulsory subject in our British school system.
Japanese schools have a subject called Classical Japanese [漢文] - which is based on Chinese documents.

One of the teachers wrote an interesting blog on this subject.
